Couple charged after growing marijuana in presence of two kids

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KCRG) - Two people have been charged after marijuana plants were found at a home in Independence.

Authorities responded to the 800 block of 6th Street NE for a report of suspected drug activity and child endangerment on December 7.

During the investigation, police spoke with David Stick, who consented to a search and admitted to drug activity in the presence of two minor children.

The Independence Police Department found a dozen marijuana plants, prepackaged bags of marijuana, and one bag of mushrooms. All the items were seized from the property along with $6,530 in cash near the plants.

David and Carrie Stick were both charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp, two counts of Child Endangerment, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. David was also charged with Possession of Psilocybin.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office and Iowa Department of Human Services assisted in the investigation.
