Many parents around the world welcomed newborns on Leap Day, February 29, 2016. That includes some in Cedar Rapids.

Saint Luke's Hospital delivered at least five babies. Parents had debates on whether their child's birthday would be celebrated the last day in February or the first of March in non-leap years.

One of those was Owen Mathias Birker who weighed in at 8 pounds, 2 ounces and 21 inches long. He joins a sister, Gia, also born on Leap Day in 2012. Mom Leah and dad Jeff are doing well.

St. Luke's Communications Specialist Sarah Corizzo spoke to proud papa Jeff Birker.

By the way, leap day babies are called Leaplings.
