A Coralville elementary school principal spent a chilly night sleeping on the roof of his school.
Principal Andy Gahan camped out on top of Coralville Central Elementary School Wednesday night as a reward to students who met their summer reading goal at the Coralville Public Library. In all 150 students completed the program.
"Students and their families were kind enough to bring Mr. Gahan treats, drinks, things to pass the time and most importantly, HOT COFFEE! He was able to retrieve these items by lowering an orange bucket and then reeling the bucket back up onto the roof!" a school employee tells KCRG-TV9
Temperatures dropped as low as 34 degrees overnight in the Coralville area, according to the KCRG-TV9 First Alert Storm Team.
