Compassion Fund benefits children in hospitals and their families

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Caring for a sick child can be hard both mentally, emotionally, and financially.

That's where the Compassion Fund comes in, it allows social workers to help families in need and offer some financial help.

KCRG-TV9 is partnering with KMRY Radio and Variety the Children's Charity Wednesday and Thursday during their radiothon to help raise money for the Compassion Fund.

The money is used to help parents while their children are in the hospital.

It can pay for anything insurance may not cover from childcare for other siblings to meals for parents while they are visiting their critically ill child in the hospital.

All the money donated supports children and their families at UnityPoint Health St. Luke's and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
