Cold front hits with strong wind later today

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Temperatures have been slowly rising all night leading us into the 30s as we head out to school and work this morning. On your way home from school and work, this will be a far different story as winds will be sharply increasing and temperatures will be dropping.

As this cold front moves across eastern Iowa, there is a slight opportunity for a rain/snow mix, though the impact on this looks very low. You'll notice the wind and dropping temperatures much more than any precipitation that happens to briefly occur.

Once wind chills go below zero this evening, they'll stay below zero through Friday night!

This weekend, our next system will arrive in the form of snow and should be here by Sunday morning. While it's still too early to assess totals, it seems light to moderate accumulations are likely across Iowa and at the very least will cause some slick driving conditions again.
