The fiance of a woman who disappeared from Tama County in 2000 is now charged with her murder.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation announced a grand jury indicted Tait Purk, 50, on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Cora Okonski.

In 2000, Okonski went out to the store and never returned. Her body has never been found but earlier this year, investigators declared the case was now being treated as a homicide.

Purk was engaged to Okonski at the time of the disappearance. Investigators say interviews and new evidence led them to reopen the case in March 2015.

Purk is currently serving a federal prison sentence on unrelated gun and drug charges.
