Closures at Lindale Mall hurt local coffee store sales

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) - A coffee shop owner in Marion says her business started off strong but now she's feeling the negative impacts of other parts of the economy.

Aurora Moes owns Aurora Coffee Company. Her family opened the first store, near Linn-Mar High School, in 2016.

She said business started off strong, so they opened a stand in Lindale Mall. But recently those sales are declining.

"I am looking forward to 2019! However, if we do not get more community support, we will have to close our doors soon," Moes wrote on the company's Facebook page.

Moes said the location at the mall is struggling the most.

“We lost the two anchor stores --Younkers and Sears -- and it brought down sales by a couple thousands of dollars so it was a huge impact to our coffee house at the mall,” she said.

Moes is trying new ways to attract more customers. People can now order coffee online and staff will bring the orders outside to their cars.
