Investigators have interviewed several individuals in regards to the shooting that happened in the parking lot of Iowa Smoke Shop at 70 Kirkwood Court southwest on Saturday morning.
Sara Smith, Assistant Public Defender and Keith's lawyer, said, in a statement, that Keith had already cooperated with the police and was confused why he would be named today as a person of interest.
"It has come to my attention that the Cedar Rapids Police Department has issued a statement naming my client, Kenyauta Keith, as a person of interest in regards to the Saturday, May 18, 2019 shooting which occurred at 70 Kirkwood Court SW," Smith said, in the statement. "This release implies that Mr. Keith is being uncooperative and not making himself available for questioning in connection with this incident. TO the contrary, Mr. Keith became aware that officers wanted to speak with him during the morning hours on Monday, May 20th. Mr. Keith and I personally went to the Cedar Rapids Police Department and me with investigators regarding this matter later that same day. At the conclusion of that meeting, Mr. Keith was free to leave and I made it quite clear to the investigators that should they wish to speak further with Mr. Keith they could call me at any time and I would make the necessary arrangements. At no time since then have I received a call from either the Cedar Rapids Police Department nor the Linn County Attorney's Office alerting me that investigators wished to speak further with Mr. Keith. I am extremely disappointed that the Cedar Rapids Police Department chose to issue a statement which implies that Mr. Keith has not made himself available to them rather than simply contacting me to make arrangements for further questioning."
Police are still looking for:
- DeShawn Hull, 21, 5'8", 200 pounds
- Andre Richardson, 25, 6'1", 185 pounds
Police have now located:
- Alexandra Smith, 24
Police say if anyone knows where these individuals are located, to call them at (319) 286-5491, or call their local law enforcement.
At this point in time, there are no arrests or charges in this case.
