CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) The Cedar Rapids City Council Tuesday made a proclamation highlighting the importance of gun safety around children.

The national "Ask" campaign encourages parents to ask if there are any unlocked guns in the homes of their children's friends. Then the parents can decide whether to allow their kids to go to a home that has an unlocked gun.

Council members proclaimed Tuesday to be Ask Day.
