Cedar Rapids downtown library expanding hours during extreme cold
The Cedar Rapids Public Library will open its downtown location an hour earlier than normal during the extreme cold outbreak to provide a safe space for those who need it, officials announced Monday.
The main downtown location will be open at 8 a.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week.
“We are shifting our resources for the next few days so that we can accommodate those individuals who have a need for a warm place to be during this very dangerous weather,” Dara Schmidt, Library Director, said in a statement. “The Library always strives to meet the needs of our community. This week we are doing what we can to ensure the safety of those who are most vulnerable.”
The library will also offer coffee, cocoa, and pastries at opening while supplies last.
