A long-running antique shop in Cedar Rapids announced it will be going out of business soon. The owners of the Cellar Door, 2900 1st Ave NE in Cedar Rapids, recently announced it would be closing.

Roger Edwards opened the spot with his wife back in 1983. At first it was downtown, but has since moved to its current spot on First Avenue.

Edwards took over the business when his wife passed. He says he's closing up because of old age and he wants to travel.

Those who help him with the shop say he's ready to move on.

"He's pretty happy about it because he wants to retire for good. That's the only way that he can do it," said employee Margaret Scheffert.

Employees are unsure exactly how long the store will stay open. They expect to close up for the last time somewhere in the next six months.
