DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - Cancelled flights are causing problems for some Dubuque families trying to make it to the Rose Bowl.
But some fans from Dubuque said they were going to make it to the game, no matter what.
As thousands of Hawkeye fans crowded The Eastern Iowa Airport ready to watch their beloved Hawkeyes try their luck against Stanford, some travelers from Dubuque weren't so lucky.
"Our flight was scheduled out of Dubuque to Chicago, then Chicago to LAX. We planned to leave on the 30th. But we got a call on the 29th at 11 p.m. The call said our flight from Chicago to LAX has been cancelled due to no crew for the plane," Jennifer Webber said.
The Webber family scrambled to find other flights, but with no luck, they decided to hop in their car and make the 27 hour drive from Dubuque, all the way to Pasadena.
"Yes it will be worth it. It will be worth it to be part of history. You know being back there, 25 years later," Webber said.
That same cancelled flight put Hawkeye fans Mike and Shannon Giese in a bind.
"I got a call from American Airlines saying that they were cancelling our flight and re-booked us on a Friday flight, which wasn’t going to work because the game is Friday," Mike Giese said.
Instead the Gieses drove from Dubuque to Chicago O'Hare in the middle of the night. They found another flight to Phoenix, then finally to LA.
"At the time I was like, 'That's crap! No, they can't do that. Illegal! There should be some sort of government investigation so I can get to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl," Giese joked.
Both families say they were willing to do whatever they had to do to make it to the game.
"You've got go to the Rose Bowl. It's been 25 years!" Giese said.
