Police are investigating a dead body on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids.

Police say they responded to a call at 7:24 a.m. on Wednesday.

An adult man was found dead in an alley in the 500 block alley between 9th 10th Street Southwest in Cedar Rapids. That's a few blocks northwest of Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Neighbors tell TV9 they heard what they believe were gunshots on Tuesday night. Dallas Coleman says he was sitting at home on his computer around that time. He tells TV9 his father had just come home around that time and heard the same thing outside.

"Then this morning we wake up, and the cops are here and somebody's dead in an alley like just right across from our street. It's kind of kind of shocking," Coleman said.

Police had the alley mostly blocked off all morning and officers interviewed neighbors.

Police have not identified the man who died.
