CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Normally when C-SPAN is in Cedar Rapids, the President is in town, but this time they're here checking out history.
All week C-SPAN is in town checking out historic buildings and districts for a special that's airing March 16 and 17. They will be documenting the NewBo District, as well as Czech Village.
Several historic buildings like the Veterans Memorial Building, Popoli's and Mother Mosque will be highlighted.
Local historians say they're excited to see the city getting attention on the national level.
"The history, the stories of a community like Cedar Rapids are what make it really special,” said Historian Mark Stoffer Hunter with The History Center. “For the people that live here today, and the people that will live here in the future is that it's that kind of unique vibe that the story has that's based on its storytelling."
C-SPAN is holding a kickoff event Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the downtown Cedar Rapids Library.
It's open to the public
