MCGREGOR, Iowa (KCRG) - Authorities say the body of a missing 56-year-old boater was recovered on October 18.
DNR Conservation Officer Jared Landt says John Roe's body was recovered on by a fisherman who was fishing and searching for the body near Cassville.
Landt said official search efforts for the man had ended just a day before.
Crews from Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin spent time searching for the Burlington, Wisconsin man who was boating by himself on the Mississippi River on October 6.
On October 6, firefighters were able to ram the boat they were called to near the Cassville Ferry Landing in order to stop the boat from spinning.
They were then able to pull the safety lanyard to stop the engine.
The following week the search for the missing man continued with help from the Iowa DNR, Wisconsin DNR, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, United States Coast Guard, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Wisconsin State Patrol, Guttenberg Fire Department, Guttenberg Police Department, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Glen Haven Fire Department, and the Cassville Fire Department.
Christian Aid Services of Illinois even brought a command trailer, rescue boats with SONAR equipment and underwater surveillance tools to aid in the search.
Landt says they are still waiting to hear more information about the cause of death.
