Body found in Allamakee County

ALLAMAKEE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- An investigation is underway into a body found in Allamakee County.

The Allamakee County Sheriff's Office said it received a report of a body in a wooded area of the Fish Farm Mounds Wildlife area south of New Albin at 8:27 a.m. on Sunday.

Two hikers reported they had found the body while hiking in the area.

The sheriff's office said the remains belong to a male who has been dead for some time.

The body has been transported to the State of Iowa Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny for an autopsy and identification.

No foul play is suspected.

The Allamakee County Sheriff's Office said it has been in contact with the Kewanee Police Department in Illinois regarding a missing person's case reported on Oct. 3.

On Oct. 4, a vehicle believed to be driven by the missing person was found at the Fish Mounds Wildlife Area. Multiple searches were conducted of the area at the time and were unsuccessful.
