BELLE PLAINE, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Authorities tell TV9 the incident was ruled a suicide.
The Belle Plaine Police Department says the person who died after being hit by the train was 42-year-old Justin Wisner from Belle Plaine.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office was notified by the Union Pacific Railroad around midnight that a train had hit a pedestrian.
Authorities say one person has died in the accident.
Around 6:20 a.m. railroad crossings were reopened.
Belle Plaine Police Department and Belle Plaine Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Authorities say the Belle Plaine Police are investigating a train vs. pedestrian accident.
Authorities said railroad crossings were still closed at 6 a.m. on April 23.
Cross traffic can be diverted to the underpass on 11th Avenue if necessary.
