Waterloo's

is now official.

City council members voted 4-3 to approve the ordinance Monday night. It prevents the city and private employers from having a question about criminal records on job applications.

The ordinance now includes an investigation and penalty process to protect an employer from a civil lawsuit. Businesses are expected to comply with the rules starting July 1.
