Authorities in several counties spent their time Friday cleaning up crash scenes. Semis rolled in several locations as wind gusts have been in excess of 60 miles per hour.
Here is a look at some of these incidents.
LINN COUNTY
As of 3PM, authorities responded to four crashes involving semis. That includes I-380 at the 27 mile marker, near Tower Terrace Road. A semi landed in the median and blocked the left, Southbound lane. The Linn County Sheriff said no one was hurt. A tow truck was able to remove the semi, but it caused traffic to backup in both the Northbound and Southbound lanes.
Two separate crashes happened on Highway 13. The first happened at Blaines Crossing. There was only property damage involved in that crash, and it caused a minor backup.
The second crash happened shortly afterwards just after 2 p.m. at Cottage Grove Parkway. 34-year-old Justin Redmond of Newhall was driving the semi when it was blown over by the wind. He was wearing a seatbelt. Redmond was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening. The semi completely blocked the Northbound lanes as well as one of the Southbound lanes. Crews had to divert traffic around the crash via Mt. Vernon Road.
Emergency responders were also cleaning up a semi that rolled at Highway 1 near Ellison Road. It wasn't known if anyone was hurt in this crash. The Iowa DOT website shows there was some traffic backed up.
IOWA COUNTY
Iowa County authorities also responded to a semi that rolled in the Northbound lanes on Highway 151 near Amana at 13:30 p.m. A picture sent by a viewer shows the semi landed off of the roadway. The Iowa County Sheriff's Office said no one was hurt and the semi was the only vehicle involved.
JONES COUNTY
Emergency responders say a semi was blown over on Highway 151 at 150th Street, north of Anamosa. Traffic was blocked in the Northbound lanes for a short amount of time as crews cleared that scene. Any injuries involved in this crash were minor.
DUBUQUE COUNTY
Authorities responded to U.S. 61 Southbound, between County Road D41 and County Road D53, around 2:25 p.m. That's about one mile south of the Dubuque area in the Skyline Road area. The Dubuque County Sheriff's Office says a semi owned by "The Bedding Group", operated by 55-year-old Alphonse Hudson of Rock Island, Illinois, was blown over by the wind. The vehicle blocked both of the Southbound lanes for around an hour and a half. Hudson was taken to the hospital and released this afternoon with minor injuries. The vehicle sustained about $40,000 in damages.
