Areas of rain and fog likely for Wednesday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - As our snowpack rapidly melts down and dew points rise, be on the lookout for fog. While the morning hours are favored for some fog, it could be around at just about any time of day, especially over the north half of our area. Scattered showers and storms will be possible today with a round moving through early this morning. A round is likely this afternoon and any storm may be capable of small hail and gusty wind.

No severe weather is expected at this time, however, temperatures will be pushing 60 degrees from Iowa City and points south for a brief time. Another quarter to half inch of rain is likely today, bringing totals to what we generally expected which was around one inch or so.

Area rivers continue to rise and those forecasts are still of limited confidence due to ice jam potential, snow runoff rates and the general early season saturated/frozen ground.

Our weekend continues to look great with highs into the lower and middle 40s. Dry weather is in the offing next week as many rivers hit their crests.
