Anamosa Chamber of Commerce raising money to get 'American Gothic' sculpture there
The city of Anamosa has been offered to host the ‘American Gothic’ sculpture for several months. It’s inspired by a painting done by Grant Wood, who was born near Anamosa. That 20th century artwork of a man and a woman in front of a house is one of the most recognizable paintings in history.
The Anamosa Chamber of Commerce setup a GoFundMe account to help pay the $20,000 to bring it to town. The sculpture is currently in Indiana.
Officials say it would be a good tourist attraction. LeeAnna Boone of the Chamber of Commerce says, “People come from all over to see this, have their picture taken, so I think it could benefit our hotels, restaurants, shopping, a little bit of everything.”
