BEDFORD, Iowa (KCCI) -- Seven injuries were reported in a school bus rollover crash in southern Iowa Wednesday morning.
KMA Radio reports the crash happened in Taylor County at the intersection of Highway 2 and Lake Road east of Bedford.
“Preliminary reports indicate the accident involved a Bedford School District bus, with approximately 15 students aboard,” the radio station reports.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area as the road was closed in both directions temporarily.
Bedford School Superintendent Joe Drake released the following statement:
"We had two adults and five students who were transported by ambulance to Corning and Clarinda hospitals with non-life threatening injuries," said Drake. "All other students were transported by their parents, to be checked out by a doctor."
Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Nathan Ludwig says five students and the drivers of both vehicles were taken to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He says the remaining 10 children on the bus were released to their parents.
Ludwig says the driver of the northbound vehicle apparently didn't halt at a stop sign and then hit the westbound bus, knocking the bus onto one of its sides.
The names of those involved haven't been released.
