Scouting for Food – Hawkeye Area Council, BSA

The Scouting for Food Drive through the Boy Scouts of America, is the largest community outreach project in the Hawkeye Area Council. Every year the Scouts collect donations throughout neighborhoods to provide for the less fortunate. Bags are distributed to thousands of homes, which are then filled and set on their doorsteps for Scouts to pick up. All donations are taken to HACAP’s Food Reservoir and other local food agencies across 7 counties.

5th Annual Beers in the Barnyard – Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation

The Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation 5th Annual Beers in the Barnyard event is Thursday October 6th at 5:30pm, at Old McDonald’s Farm in Bever Park. This fun event features a picnic meal, a variety of local beer samplings, live music, and a silent auction! All funds raised will benefit the ReLeaf for Parks initiative, supporting the planting and care of over 8,000 trees throughout parks in Cedar Rapids. The Eastern Iowa Pet Expo is hosting a Spooktacular Pet Event! Join them on Saturday October 8th at the Iowa National Guard Armory in Cedar Rapids. Dress up yourselves and your pets and enjoy trick or treat bags (while supplies last). There will be pets available for adoption and a variety of vendors and crafter’s. 10th Annual Run & Ride – Willis Dady

The annual Willis Dady Run & Ride is here! On Saturday October 8th, join this great organization at Prairie Creek Fishery. Check-in begins at 8:30am with registration starting at 9am. You can participate in the 5K run or walk, the 10K run, or the Kids-Ride-A-Thon at 11am. Help Willis Dady fight homelessness by supporting this event. Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer – Mercy Medical Center

The Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer is celebrating its 32nd year! On October 9th, Join EFY for a 5K Run, 5K Walk, or a Family Fun Walk! The race will begin at 8am at the Mercy Hall-Perrine Cancer Center. By supporting this organization, you are helping to provide financial assistance for cancer services to local individuals in need. The EFY fund has helped nearly 12,000 individuals access more than 29,000 services. Sign up today!

Nursery of Hope – Loving Tanner

The Knox Blocks Foundation and Loving Tanner are partnering for the 4th annual Nursery of Hope event. This amazing event welcomes parents and families to plant a tree in honor or an infant lost too soon. The trees will help bring everyone together to create a forest at Hickory Hills Park. After the tress are planted, a candlelight vigil will take place. To participate, visit their website and fill out a form. Spots are available on a first come-first serve basis.

The Golden Hour: Bur Oak Art Fundraiser – Bur Oak Land Trust

The Bur Oak Land Trust is celebrating their 1st Annual Golden Hour Event: Art for Conservation. From 5:30-7:30pm, guests are invited to enjoy appetizers, drinks, and live music by harpist Mara Maas.
