IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Senior linebacker Jack Campbell was recognized as the nation’s top linebacker on Thursday.

Campbell was named the winner by the Butkus Foundation, the first Iowa Hawkeye player to win the award. Larry Station was the closest prior to Campbell’s win with a second-place finish in 1985.

Campbell currently has 115 total tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery on the season.

The graduate of Cedar Falls High School was named the William V. Campbell Trophy recipient earlier this week. Campbell was also named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and the conference’s Linebacker of the Year.

Iowa plays one more game this season against Kentucky in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl. The game takes place on Saturday, Dec. 31, at 11:00 a.m. with television coverage on ABC stations, including KCRG-TV9.
