WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) - A fire has destroyed at a queue building for an upcoming “family flume ride” at Lost Island Theme Park in Waterloo.

According to the Waterloo Courier first responders were called to a large structural fire shortly after 7:45 p.m. A KCRG-TV9 crew confirmed the fire was still blazing as late as 10 p.m.

In a statement, Theme Park management said the control system and loading station components to the Yuta Falls ride were destroyed and will require replacement.

“This is a difficult setback to our project, but we still plan on pushing forward and opening for the season,” management said in the statement. “We want to thank all the first responders who arrived, difficult as it was to get to the fire.”

The addition had been scheduled to open tentatively in May or June of this year.
