Three-car accident shuts down Highway 13 in Cedar Rapids
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A portion of Highway 13 in Cedar Rapids was closed on Wednesday due to a multi-car accident.
Authorities say it happened between Bertram Rd and Summit View Lane at around 5:21 P.M.
When emergency personal arrived, they discovered that a driver had failed to stop for backed-up traffic and rear-ended two other vehicles.
The driver of the striking vehicle was trapped in her car and had to be extracted by the Marion Fire Department.
The striking vehicle’s driver and passenger were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids by Area Ambulance Service for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger in one of the vehicles that was read-ended went by personal vehicle to Mercy Hospital to be checked out.
All drivers and passengers involved were wearing seatbelts.
The driver of the striking vehicle was cited for failing to stop within the assured and clear distance.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office along with Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue 57, West Bertram Fire Department, Marion Fire Department and Area Ambulance Service all assisted in the response to the accident.
A portion of Highway 13 northbound in Cedar Rapids is closed due to a car accident.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), the accident is between Bertram Rd and Summit View Lane and involves multiple cars.
The accident happened sometime around 5:30 P.M.
