Cedar Falls’ Keeran, Mallavarapu win 2A state doubles title

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Mira Keeran and Maya Mallavarapu won the 2A state doubles championship on Thursday afternoon in Iowa City. The pair defeated Dowling’s Ava Peterson and MacKenzie Klein in three sets.

After falling 3-6 in the first set, the duo still felt confident they could mount a comeback.

“We just thought one point at a time and we knew we could fight back,” said Keeran.

The Tigers’ flipped the script in the second set, evening the score by winning 6-4.

“Both of us have been working very hard for this and we just wanted to give it our all and we weren’t going down without a fight,” said Mallavarapu.

In set three, they brought home the state title with a second-consecutive 6-4 win.

“Just like pure joy, we’ve been working so hard all year for this and its just a really amazing experience,” Mallavarapu said.
