Dubuque police identify body found at Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, ex-boyfriend arrested

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - Police have identified the person that was found dead on Monday at the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens at 3800 Arboretum Drive.

The dead body was found after officers received a report of suspicious items on the property just before noon on Monday.

Officials identified the body as 20-year-old Jennifer Lopez, of Galena, Illinois.

In a news release, officials said Lopez’s ex-boyfriend, 21-year-old Richard Forsythe, of Galena, Illinois, was developed as a possible suspect based on evidence at the scene.

The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department in Illinois arrested Forsythe on unrelated charges at around 2:22 p.m. Monday.

On Tuesday, police issued a warrant charging Forsythe with Murder in the 1st Degree with a $1,000,000 cash bond.

Officials said Forsythe is in the Jo Daviess County Jail awaiting extradition to Dubuque.
