DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) -The CDC says an Iowa teenager was accidentally given a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, WOI in Des Moines reports.

According to a report on the agency’s website, a 15-year-old girl got the Moderna vaccine on December 21st at an Iowa pharmacy.

The report reads in part quote “We realized after administration that we had inadvertently given the vaccine to a 15-year-old... she is not having any symptoms or problems. We have been monitoring her and encouraged her to speak with us if she has any issues.”

Most of the data in the report is kept anonymous for privacy reasons. It is not known where in the state she received the shot.

The vaccine’s emergency use authorization from the FDA does not allow it to be used on anyone under the age of 18.

WOI reached out to the Iowa Department of Public Health for more information on the case, but have not heard back.
