Environmental Protection Agency orders Hy-Vee to stop selling some disinfectant wipes
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The Environmental Protection Agency is ordering Hy-vee to stop selling Outlaw Germ Justice Disinfectant Wipes.
MJB Worldwide LLC produces and distributes the wipes with the claim that the product will kill bacteria and viruses. However, the EPA said the company failed to register the product, and the wipes could represent a danger to consumers.
The EPA said it contacted MJB Worldwide in November 2020 about an unregistered product, and the company assured the agency it had recalled the disinfectant products and would ensure all future production would be done in compliance with federal law.
However, an inspector from the agency discovered a reformulated version of the wipes for were for sale at a Hy-Vee grocery store in Kansas on January 6.
The inspector also found the concentration of chemicals listed on the product’s label could cause severe eye and skin irritation.
