WASHINGTON (KCRG) - A few members of the Trump administration resigned on Wednesday, amid a day of chaos in Washington, D.C.

The most prominent was deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews, who attributed her resignation to the events that took place on Capitol Hill. A mob of pro-Trump rioters stormed the Captiol building, disrupting the joint session of Congress that had gathered to count electoral votes submitted by the states.

“I was honored to serve in the Trump administration and proud of the policies we enacted. As someone who worked in the halls of Congress I was deeply disturbed by what I saw today. I’ll be stepping down from my role, effective immediately. Our nation needs a peaceful transfer of power,” Matthews said, in a statement.

Stephanie Grisham, the spokeswoman and chief of staff for First Lady Melania Trump, and Rickie Niceta, the White House social secretary, also resigned on Wednesday.
