CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Mercy Medical Center and UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Hospital are reducing surgical cases, which require a hospital stay after surgery, as COVID-19 related hospitalizations rise.

This change will stay in place until November 20th.

Both hospitals have also stopped scheduling elective procedures in the immediate future which require an overnight post-op bed.

In a joint statement, both hospitals said they will continue to accept and treat patients.

They’re reminding people that health emergencies, like signs of a heart attack or stroke, require immediate attention.

People shouldn’t wait to go to a hospital.

They say if someone has a medical emergency, both hospitals are open, safe and ready to provide care.
