IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - After two consecutive weeks of having to find opponents in the middle of the week, the Regina Regals are just happy they are still playing football.

“We changed games on Wednesday, so a couple of days to prepare.” Alec Wick said. “Pleasant Valley runs a triple option which is an incredible offense to prepare for.”

“And then we turn around the next week and play Clear Lake which is wide open spread offense.” said Regina head coach Marv Cook. “You know it’s fun to watch our kids really just accept the challenge go play football.”

It turned about to be a battle of former Hawkeye all-big players in Marv Cook and Clear Lake Coach Jared Devries, that Regina won 21-20. They even got to experience a little Hayden Fry in the game.

“Their game locker room it’s actually the old Iowa theme." Cook said when describing Clear Lake’s visiting locker room. "It is pink head to toe so it reminded me of a big 10 football game.

So far COVID-19 football has been a challenge for Cook and his team but they are just happy they get play.

“I actually got emotional a few times just the fact that they had an opportunity to go out and play was emotional for me.” Cook said. “I’ve coached these guys since kindergarten so I’m very familiar with these guys and love the opportunity I get to share with them.”
