Thousands of Iowans still in the dark as crews work to restore power

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - As of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Alliant Energy reported 176,802 customers were still without power following Monday’s derecho. Out of that total, 86,890 customers are in Linn County. On Tuesday, Alliant said restoring power could take ‘several days’ due to downed lines and trees across the area.

MidAmerican Energy reported more than 134,000 of its customers still did not have power.

There are more than 16,000 Rural Electric Cooperative customers still without power. Around 12,000 are in Linn County.

Power companies are reminding people to give crews time and space so they can work as quickly and as safely as possible.
