Nearly 80% of electric customers without power in Linn County

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Widespread power outages continued across Linn County on Wednesday evening, with utility companies working to restore services brought down due to Monday’s devastating derecho.

As of 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, around 89,250 customers in the county were without power. 77,853 of those were from Alliant Energy, and an additional 11,374 among Linn County REC customers. 23 East Central Iowa Rural Electrical Cooperative customers were also without power. This constitutes nearly 80% of the customers served by those companies in Linn County.

Alliant Energy asked customers to be patient as crews work overtime to restore electrical service.

Around 275,176 people are without power statewide among Alliant, MidAmerican Energy, and REC customers.
