Two injured in incident at Anamosa State Penitentiary

ANAMOSA, Iowa (KCRG) - Two corrections employees were injured in an incident on Tuesday, according to state officials.

According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, an inmate allegedly assaulted a corrections officer at around 8:53 a.m. Officials said the inmate hit the officer multiple times from behind with a pointed piece of aluminum. Other employees helped to subdue the inmate.

The officer and a counselor who responded to the incident received minor injuries. They were both taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The inmate did not suffer any major injuries in the incident, according to medical staff.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
