CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - After about 2-5″ of rainfall over the past 48 hours, the Cedar is on the rise.

Most of the heavy rainfall fell over the northern two-thirds of the basin. This water will slowly route its way down the basin this week with a crest expected at Cedar Rapids by Thursday night into Friday morning. The forecast crest calls for moderate flood stage at 15.7 feet. Boat ramps will close and typical low areas will be flooded.

This water level is nothing new for the Cedar and it typically hits moderate flood stage at Cedar Rapids once every three years or so.

The next opportunity for heavy rain arrives on Friday. Right now, it is too soon to tell if that will cause additional flooding or not.
