IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The University of Iowa Athletic Department says they have “paused ticket sales for the 2020 football season”.

In a release issued Monday morning, University of Iowa Athletics says only those who renew their season tickets and pay their per-seat contribution by June 30 will be included in any potential seating plans for Kinnick Stadium.

“Hawkeye fans are excited for the upcoming season and we truly appreciate their continued enthusiasm and support,” Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair Gary Barta said in a written statement. “With the current information available, we needed to pause additional sales and start focusing on reduced capacity seating models based on our season ticket holders. We anticipate finalizing this by late July and will share with our fans. The option of having the ability to accommodate as many Hawkeye fans who are comfortable attending a game in Kinnick Stadium is still one of the scenarios.”

UI Athletics also announced the Hawkeye Express will not operate for the 2020 season because of the potential for reduced capacity at the stadium. The Hawkeye Express, which is operated by Iowa Interstate Railroad and owned by Iowa Northern Railway, shuttles fans from a parking lot in Coralville to Kinnick Stadium.

“We have a wonderful relationship with the Iowa Northern Railway, Iowa Interstate Railroad and the City of Coralville,” said Barta. “With so many uncertainties heading into the season and the potential for reduced capacity and ridership, we determined the sensible decision was to suspend operations for this season.”

It was also announced that tickets and parking passes for all University of Iowa venues will move to mobile-only beginning in the Fall 2020 season. Paper tickets and parking hangtags will not be printed and mailed.

Fans can pre-purchase mobile parking passes until Noon on the Friday before a home game. Fans can still purchase space in public lots the day of a game, but only as space allows. Credit cards will be the only form of payment accepted.

Season ticket holders who picked the paper ticket option will receive a commemorative set of tickets at the end of the season.

Ticket buyers will receive links to download their tickets to Apple Wallet or Google Pay.

Fans wishing to sell their tickets will still be able to do so through StubHub.

The University of Iowa Athletics Department says if the 2020 season is disrupted, they will provide future credit or ticket refunds.
