Vacation Not So Far From Home

Dyersville Iowa, a town of a little over 4,000 welcomes well over 130,000 visitors annually throughout the year to various sites attractions and events and this summer will be no exception. Known as the Farm Toy Capitol of the World due to to the influx of farm toy manufactures, Dyersville will again host thousands of toy tractor enthusiasts at the Summer Farm Toy Show June 4 & 5th. The Summer Farm Toy Show is one of two farm shows held in Dyersville with the National show being held November 5-7 of this year. Shows like the National Farm Toy Show are like a mecca for collectors, traders, buyers and sellers alike. Another popular event attracting those looking to buy, sell or trade is Lightning Fest being held July 16-17 at the RC2 (formerly Racing Champions Ertl) Outlet Center in Dyersville. This two day event centers around die-cast automobile toys and will hold silent charity auctions, raffles, design forums, product showrooms and a celebrity wiffle ball game among other activities. Another must see attraction in Dyersville is the ever famous Field of Dreams Movie Site where the Academy Award nominated film was made. A group of mostly local performers known as the Ghost Players were once known for their special comedy performances held at the famous ball field. Although the Ghost Players no longer perform at the ball field, the Ghost Players will dust off their cleats this summer for charity. The Ghost Players will perform their comedy routine "The Best Show On Dirt" and will also play a celebrity baseball game against the US Military All Stars on Sunday, July 18 at Commercial Club Park in Dyersville to support the local VFW. Admission for Patriot Night at the Ball Park is $5 with 12 and under free, tickets can be bought in advance. Music entertainment and kids rides will start at 3:00, Ghost Players Comedy routine at 5:15, Opening ceremonies at 6:15, Celebrity Game at 7:05.
