Last night as Boy Scouts prepared to enjoy an evening with their families at Camp Waubeek for Family Night, the weather took a turn for the worse. Sirens blared as all scouts and families were evacuated to the nearby woods or pool house for shelter. What seemed like an eternity finally ended as the all clear was given. Thankfully minor injuries were reported as the only real trauma was the panic most people felt. For many young scouts this was their first year to the camp and I am sure it will be memorable. Yet the scouts were very prepared and knew exactly what to do in this situation. They made sure everyone stayed calm and acted appropriate even when the storm was hitting hard. Afterwards every scout pitched in to hand out dry towels, warm blankets, water, hot chocolate and snacks for the weary parents, children and scout troops present. I commend everyone who helped in this situation. Every parent should be proud of their scout last night.
