Our Llewellin Setter is named HOPE and her name is very unique because it has several different meanings some obvious and some hidden. HOPE is the granddaughter of a very famous Llewellin named "Hank" who starred in the TV show on the Outdoor Life Network (now Versus) called "Hunting with Hank". We live on an acreage we call Hickory Hollow, so we combined words to derive "Hickory's Hunting with HOPE". The name HOPE is also an acronym which stands for "Hank’s Offspring Produce Excellence!". We thought this name was perfect for her because it beautifully portrays the legacy passed along from her grandsire not only in the acronym, but also for the show he became so famous for. Her name also provides meaning that when hunting you have hope for finding birds, so you “hunt with hope” that you will harvest a good bounty. The final meaning stems from my “desire and anticipation and expectation of fulfillment or success” to produce a dog of such beauty, color and heritage which I felt before HOPE was actually born into a litter we had purposefully bred and raised. A lot of heartfelt thought went into her name because she is a very special dog.
