Childrens train derails after axel breaks in City Park, Iowa city.
Janis Suhl aids in attempting to put train car back on tracks, after it derailed Sunday afternoon.
A popular childrens ride in Iowa city's City Park derailed Sunday afternoon at 2:15. After going around the tracks a few times as it always does for riders. The childrens train made a loud sound that could be heard accross the park, and came to a stop. As riders got out, they noticed that the car directly behind the engine was off the tracks. A rider, Local Cedar Rapids woman, Janis Suhl, 18, attempted to help lift the car back onto the tracks, before everyone there noticed that the car's axel had broken, and fallen onto the tracks.
When I asked the gentleman engineer about it he said"These things happen", and walked away. I could not find any other information.
I would have to ask was it a maintinance issue? Improperly greased axel is my guess, but it does raise a lot of questions in my mind about the other children's rides there and my children's saftly on them?
