The Dancers EDGE held their first annual recital Friday, June 5th in the Linn Mar High School Auditorium. Tiny Dancers 1 & 2, a group of 4 & 5 year-old first time ballerinas took the stage in the first half and STOLE the show.

It was an adorable train wreck and one little girl was the National Guard ready to save the day. The girls knew the dance, but were very distracted by the lights and the audience, however they got off to a good start…chugging right along. THEN the train skipped the track! M’s crown fell off! Little A ran over to M’s crown, placed it on her head, but it fell off again, A picked the crown up, put it on M’s head again, then ran back to her own spot to resume dancing.

The audience ROARED with laughter. It wasn’t just that A stopped to help her friend, it was the in the manner in which she did it – that NOTHING could continue until M had her crown. At this point the girls were completely lost. They had no idea where in the dance they were.

Oh two of the girls, G & G REALLY knew that dance…and they tried their best to keep the other 7 ballerinas on track, but there was NO chance.

The stage was really slippery and A had a nice graceful fall, some girls were jumping, others were spinning they were turned in all directions. By the end of the dance when half the girls were supposed to be standing in a line in the back and the other half were supposed to be kneeling in front – they were ALL in a straight line. Miss A – completely oblivious to the fact that the dance was off track did a HUGE spin right as the lights went down.

There were MANY other highlights to the evening; the opener featuring Dancers EDGE staff and competition lines, Premier Tap’s awesome performance to “Disturbia” and Advanced Ballet’s unbelievable interpretation of “The Dark Knight” in full Batman costumes. However what will live on in the memories of many who attended Dancers EDGE first recital was the compassion one little ballerina showed to another, and that’s the most important thing kids are learning at THE EDGE.
