Silent Warriors
By Jeff Bush
Years have gone and years have passed,
These silent warriors rest at last.
Bugles, battles, flags that fell,
These men and women knew them well.
They gave their lives for you and me
For this country so all could be free.
Through overwhelming odds they stood there ground,
While at home nameless protester’s put them down.
They taunted and teased them called them bad names,
It was a disgrace that they should feel ashamed.
Then came the war in Iraq in the sand,
New warriors there doing there duty again.
Paying the price for other’s so they could be free,
Free from Tyranny and Dictatorship like you and me.
As I got off the plane on my way home there sat a Vietnam Vet all alone. As I was being push from behind I just stop and halted the line I came to Attention and render a salute and said this isn’t much but this one’s for you. It must have meant a lot cause all of a sudden his eyes came alive and he sat up straight, snap back a salute and said thank you, god bless you, then was gone with out a trace. I never knew his name or which unit he was in but I will never forget the look of pride on his face.
This Country is great but once again our warriors our doing there duty in the sands of Iraq and Afghanistan. Answering a Presidents call to stop terrorism and create freedom for one and all.
So next time it’s Memorial Day and its raining or cold,
Take time to go to a Memorial service. I may not completely understand but thanks for your sacrifice and my freedom today.
