A mushroom hunter came up big this weekend. It has one stem, but there appear to be two separate shrooms growing from it. The morel didn't have an official weight when we arrived, but it felt close to five pounds. The hunter in true fashion wouldn't say where he found it, other than to say it was somewhere in the city.

That is not a false morel... the bottom of the cap is clearly attached to the stem and the pore stucture is not typical of the false morel.. it's just a big UGLY ! you would be better off eating it and finding a better looking one to preserve.

That is a large MUSHROOM (let's skip the no-longer-cute slang), but it isn't 5 pounds. Mushrooms are mostly air.
