new bridges threatened: Road closed

Summer of 2003 the Maquoketa River bridges at Hopkinton were both completely rebuilt and raised more than 6 feet and the river was rechanelled and deepened to assist runoff. An old dam was also removed to reduce water backup. June 2008 Past flooding had been up to the top of the guard rail on the old bridge. June 2008 flooding caused the new road to be closed with the river over the road in two places and up to the eave of the pavilion at Dunlap Park boat ramp. Cattle normally graze between the branches of the river.
