Oxford Mayoral Race

After 38 years of public service, Don Saxton, Mayor of Oxford has decided to retire, and is not running in this year's election. The Iowa City Press Citizen ran a story about it back on 9/20/13. As a result, we have a fairly heated mayoral race heating up in a small, rural town within the Corridor. Saturday Oct. 26 we held an informal meet and greet with the mayoral candidates and city council candidates, with minimal turnout. We have many "hot topics" in our small community--including the Vision Iowa Bike Trail that will be coming through Oxford to connect Coralville and the Amanas, Infrastructure and environmental issues that include improving our Nationally Historic registered down town through applications for various grants, and expanding our water and sewer systems to keep up with the growing community. All of these issues are important to the citizens of Oxford, and will surely be at the forefront for many decisions made in the near future. I think that it is imperative that the citizens of Oxford understand and are armed with the agendas that each candidate has, in order to make a fair and accurate decision on Election Day.
