Rare Box Turtle

This Box Turtle is rare to Iowa

We have seen just about everything out our window here at Deer Ridge.. Deer, Turkeys, Coyote, lots of Birds, and now a Rare Box Turtle. Iowa DNR wants to be notified of sightings, so will do. Just love all this nature..

You're correct, Theodore. The turtle in the picture is a Blandings turtle, Emydoidea blandingii. It is NOT a box turtle, although it does have partial hinging in the plastron. The yellow throat is the give-away. Beautiful turtle!

Where was this found in CR? My son had one that "ran away" and we could never find him.

Found out from the DNR that it is a Blanding Turtle instead.. It is a rare one also.
