A "blue moon" rises from the horizon haze in the southeastern sky around 8:08 PM, Tuesday, August 20, 2013, as seen from Echo Hill Presbyterian Church in Marion, Iowa. A blue moon is usually defined as a second full moon in a single calendar month--which this is--but this one is a rarer version as also being an extra full moon in a single season (summer).
