Boat stuck in the Coralville Reservoir outflow gate.

Boat Stuck in Reservoir Outflow Gate

On Saturday, June 19, 2013 at about 3:45 p.m., a small boat became stuck in the outflow gates at the Coralville Reservoir after either coming too close to the outflow area or losing engine power. The two passengers safely exited the boat before the rescuers arrived and were sitting on the concrete base of the gate tower shown in the pictures. The park officials cut the outflow rate significantly in an effort to lessen the pressure holding the boat against the gates. Three emergency patrol boats were at the scene assisting with the rescue. After about 30 minutes of planning and negotiating the currents, one rescue boat was able to attach a rope to the boat, while a second rescue boat pulled the stuck watercraft to safety.
